Heritage Trail - Promontory Quarry Site

Old Tithe and Field Names Maps indicate that the three quarries and others belonged to William Gossip Esq. in the late C18th, who built Thorp Arch Hall with stone obtained from his own land.  This quarry is situated immediately below a promontory rim, whereas the other two are further down steep slopes.

Examples of other typical Boston Spa limestone buildings include:

The Spa Bath buildings with The Terrace above and behind.

Crown Hotel, listed.  Early C19th pub with bay windows and later additions to left.

Littlecroft on Bridge Street, a large C18th house converted into modern flats

Old Dovecote, listed and once part of Littlecroft,  standing in the corner of Holgate  meadow.
